OUR NON GMO POPCORN EXPERIMENT

in #food7 years ago

Have you ever popped popcorn straight off of the cob? We hadn't either, until we found this cute "Farmer's Popcorn Cob."
I was skeptical but anxious to try it! This wasn't your typical HUGE GMO corn on the cob. It was a modest little cob, firm to the touch and a deep yellow color. @xtrodinarypilot spotted this at a local candy shop that has every kind of candy you can think of along with novelty items like this one.

So, I followed the directions and placed the cob into the bag, rolled the bag up and microwaved it for 2 minutes.

I guess 2 minutes wasn't quite long enough because there was still some kernels on the cob.

The popcorn tasted fresh and much more like a fresh popped popcorn rather than a bagged popcorn. We did need to add a little salt for our liking. The kids ate it up quick! I think we will stick to your traditional way of popping popcorn but the novelty was a fun experiment. It gave my kids more of a visual as to where popcorn actually comes from. What do you think, do they look satisfied?

I have never seen anything like this before. I wonder would it work for a normal cob of popping corn? We grow a row in the garden every year just so can have non-GMO popcorn. Seems like the kids really enjoyed it!

They did! I did too!!! It was strange and definitely a new experience. I always love seeing things in their raw form. I had a garden about 10 years ago and the dill I had just took over and I had never used dill to cook before. So, I went to the store and searched for something to make with it. I saw brussel sprouts for the first time on the stalk. It was so cool to me! So I took them home and cooked them with butter, garlic and fresh dill. It was sooooooo good!

Yummy! I never tried dill with brussel sprouts but I will now.

Wow... Did you actually popped the 🌽 directly from the cob. @xtdnrymompreneur

I live in popcorn country so it isn't so new to me. But seriously though it is cool, you get more by taking it off the cob, and I personally would have stove popped it. But I prefer stove popped popcorn over microwave kind, and yes you pop it like you would kernels that are loose.
