Today I will present you my recipe for Baked Rice with Apples. This dish will require cooking, frying and baking in the oven so it might seems more tricky than previous one but don't worry it's pretty straightforward.
I hope you like it!
Before we start:
- I must say that I didn't realise that this recipe can become so huge! Please don't be afraid of this recipe. I wanted to describe it as much
as I could and thats why this expanded so much. Sorry in advance.- I decided to make for you a small cooking contest with a prize 2 SBD
details at the end of this post!.
Mr W ( @woj3x )
Ingredients (for 6 servings):
- 1 kg of Apples
- 1.5 cup of Rice
- 2 l of Milk
- half stick of Butter
- 1/2 of Lemon
- 9 tbsp. of Sugar
- 3 tsp. of Vanilla Sugar
- 3 tsp. of Cinnamon
- pinch of Salt
Apples - I recommend to choose for this dish fairly sour varieties but you can pick any of them.
Rice - I tested this dish with white long grain rice and Thai jasmine rice and I can recommend both of them.
Sugar - I test it only with white sugar but I think that you can easily replace it with coconut, brown or even palm sugar.
To make this recipe more transparent let's split ingredients from the entire dish for individual heat treatments:
Instructions:
1.- Prepper all ingredients for the cooking phase.
2.- Rinse the rice in few changes of cold water - until water become clear (in first few try you will see that water is milky). Drain rice using fine mesh strainer
and put it in the large heavy pot.
Tip 2.1: The main reason why we should rinse the rice is to get rid of excess starch which makes it stick together.
3.- Add 3 cups of milk to a pot (keep additional milk in nearby). Bring it to boil over medium heat, from time to time string.
Tip 3.1: if you notice that the milk level is too low, fill it up!
4.- Reduce heat and then add 5 tbsp. of Sugar, 3 tbsp. of Batter, 3 tsp. of Vanilla Sugar and a pinch of Salt. Keep it on heat until rice will be ready.
In the meanwhile string it and add more milk if necessary (In my case I used almost 2 l of milk - including three initial glasses of milk). Don’t forget to keep checking if the rice is ready. Then put a pot aside (out from fire).
Tip 4.1: Why did you add salt to sweet rice?
Salt have a really interesting property in combination with sweet flavors
i.e: adding a little bit of salt to sweet dish will highlights its sweetness.Tip 4.2: Even after you turn off the heat rice will still drain milk so don't worry if you add a little bit too much milk.
5.- Prepper all ingredients for frying.
6.- Peel the apples and cut them into pieces (don’t forget to remove center with seeds) and put it into a large container. Take a Lemon and start to roll it over.
Cut the lemon in two then squeeze one half and add lemon juice to pieces
of apples (watch out for lemon’s seeds!). Mix it.
Tip 6.1: For sweet apples you should consider to add even more lemon juice. This will add more sour taste to the dish.
Tip 6.2: This property of lemon juice is not too useful in this this but it's worth to know that adding lemon juice on peeled / cut in into pieces apples will conserve them from losing its colour.
Tip 6.3: Always roll citrus before squeezing - it gives more juice.
7.- Melt 2 tbsp. of butter in the pan (low heat) and spread it over the whole pan then add the sugar. When sugar starts melting add apples and mix it. Keep it on
a heat until apples become soft (string it from time to time). Put a pot aside (out from fire).
8.- Turn on oven and heat it up to 180 °C (453K / 356 °F). In a meanwhile prepper ovenproof dish. Spread a thin layer of butter on the walls and bottom of the oven proof dish.
9.- Add 1/3 of cooked rice to oven proof dish. Spread it. This is a bottom level.
10.- Add apples and then take another 1/3 of cooked rice and spared it between apples and walls. This is a middle level.
11.- Add the remaining rice and spread it evenly to cover apples. This is a top level.
Tip 11.1: Optionally you can spared remaining butter on the top level of dish and then add 1tsp. of Cinnamon.
12.- After steps 8-11 are done oven should be ready for baking. Put a lid on oven proof dish or use aluminium foil to cover it and place in it the preheated oven. Bake it up to 25 min then remove it from oven.
13.- Your dish is ready to serve! Enjoy your meal!

This looks good! haha never thought of that, what a good idea. You make such nice blog posts seriously I'm impressed. Any chance for a video in the future? 😁
Thank you! I'm really glad that you like it :)
Nevertheless based on only one comment and five upvotes after more then 21 hours after the publication of this post I suppose that there is something wrong with it.
I don't know but I really need to find a way to improve it.
Regarding the question about the videos: Yes. it's possible that I'll decide to make some videos in future but up to now I didn't really think about it.
If I would decide, could I count on some advices from you? :D
@alphasteem are you gonna participate in my cooking contest?
Nothing is wrong with the post, its quite good to be honest. It really comes down to visibility on steemit which is not easy to get...that's why I stick to dtube videos because blogs usually don't get the visibility I would like, at least thats my experience. I don't think that I will participate also really busy around steemit but thank you for thinking about it. Also my experience with contests is that unless you have a lot of influence here on steemit most will not participate. I have tried a contest and it had no participants lol.
Thank you for your valuable advices.
Right now I have no doubts that I won't have any participants in this contest but it was worth to try :D
Have a nice day Lydia!
