A Japanese Gem in the Garden City

Japanese cuisine is one of the most loved cuisines in the United Arab Emirates or UAE, so it’s no surprise that Chuto Sushi Restaurant established its first venture in Al Ain, also known as the Garden City, in the UAE. The location of the UAE was the inspiration behind the naming of the restaurant as ‘Chuto’, a Japanese word that translates to Middle East.

It might be a fact that Chuto is situated in Al Ain, but to me, it’s a blessing in the disguise of coincidence when this new Japanese eatery happened to be nearby my home. My fondness for sushi naturally evoked the feeling of craving and yearning to visit it. And the growing urge etched as a pleasant and satisfying memory in my heart when my family and I enjoyed our dinner in Chuto last night.

Upon entry, we were invited to our tables by welcoming staff. We were presented with tablets to check out the digital menu. The staff were attentive and approached our queries regarding their dishes calmly and knowledgeably. Whilst discussing, as though the main chef heard our grumbling stomachs, he brought us an impressive-looking complimentary sushi. There were 5 pieces, each for one of us. The sushi was rolled with nori (toasted seaweed) and topped with shredded crabstick and fish roe and drizzled with spicy Japanese mayonnaise . Like a kid, I immediately reached for one piece and stuffed the whole thing in my mouth. It tasted refreshing and tantalized my taste buds for more.

After a long consideration, as recommended by the staff, we decided to order Miso Soup, Prawn Tempura, SET C Maki Rolls and Tiger Roll.

The Miso Soup was wholesome and had generous amount of tofu, mushrooms and seaweed. Each spoonful of soup was warm and soothing. On the other hand, the Prawn Tempura was crispy and not overwhelmingly greasy. The sweet tempura sauce and spicy Japanese mayonnaise that accompanied it served as great dips.

After devouring our scrumptious appetizers, we moved on to the star of our meal which was SET C Maki Rolls. It comprised four kinds of traditional maki rolls including Crispy California, Crunchy, Tempura and Vegetarian. Each piece was addicting and bursting with flavors.

Although we were full, we were tempted to try Tiger Roll, our last sushi for the night. The sweet mango on top of the sushi acted as an icing on a cake.

In short, our dining experience at Chuto was amazing and pleasurable. I’m looking forward to visiting again and indulging in other dishes. I must say from the bottom of my heart, that this place is a ‘Japanese Gem in the Garden City’.
