Fried Tofu As A Snack

in #food • 6 years ago (edited)

Don't be too quick to judge 😊

First, you have to admit, that picture of my fried tofu with homemade ponzu dipping sauce is YUMMY!

The health conscious in all of us are quick to react when we see the word "fried" but hey I used canola cooking oil and I made sure excess oils were absorbed using a paper towel. My wife is trying to lose weight and is on a low-carb diet for the last 3 weeks. She tries to avoid late night snack but Sunday night and were watching Game Of Thrones, we needed sumthin to munch on!

So I fried some tofu and made the dipping sauce. I added some cilantro to the sauce for some more flavor. The verdict?

"It was delicious, filling and satisfying..."

"I can't believe I can eat fried snack guilt-free..."

"The crunchiness is amazing and the texture was perfect as it absorb just enough of the dipping sauce..."

"I will come back for more..."

By the way, all those comments were from my wife 😊

If you are interested in making it, make sure you use firm tofu. We live in Korea Town Los Angeles so they are available everywhere.

Ingredients:

1 package firm tofu

Canola Oil

Dipping sauce:

1 whole fresh medium size lemon

1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce

1/4 tsp black pepper (ground)

1/4 tsp minced garlic

chopped cilantro

Cooking:

1. cut tofu into cubes of about 1 inch

2. deep fry on medium heat. It floats so stir from time to time to cook evenly.

3. when it turns light brown, turn off the heat and take out from the fryer and drain using a strainer. You want the tofu to be crunchy outside but soft inside so don't overcook it.

ENJOY!
