Frappe is one of the most popular types of coffee in Greece and is drunk with a straw.
It is made with instant coffee and mixed in a shaker, mixer or ice cream maker with ice cubes and sugar (optional).
The materials are placed in the container with a small amount of water to mix. After the mix, add the rest of the water.
Many people add milk, ice cream or even alcohol (eg Baileys) to the frappe but this is done after you mix it.
The word is of French origin and means beaten.
In other countries, the word frappe is used for other fruit-based drinks.
Frappe coffee was invented in the 1950s by an employee of the Greek representative of Nestlé during the International Fair of Thessaloniki.
