Twist in the tail

in #food8 years ago

Here's one to tell the kids. Back in February some pigs and their piglets were rescued from a burning barn by firemen. Everyone say 'ahhh'.

Several months later those little piglets have grown up and the firemen have been rewarded with....

...sausages!

The destiny of a farm pig is to be human food, as it is for many other animals. All those books we read our children about happy farm animals don't reflect the reality.

Today's lesson is...

...don't tell porkies ;)

What do you think? Too hammy?

It's true that it's sad. I try to eat less meat.

I like fish better. Not a fan of red meat :)

I gave up meat years ago for various reasons. People need to think about where their food comes from

I've been vegetarian my whole life and sometimes human behaviour baffles me

It is crazy how people can be so sentimental about a pet dog and happily eat a pig that is just as intelligent. Once I started thinking about such things I had to give up meat.

Mind you, we know how irrational humans are in general. It's no surprise.

@captaincanary I am the first generation vegetarian in my family, from a long line of meat eaters. Years ago when I finally came out of the vegetarian closet with my Grandfather his response was simple, "You always were a strange child." And it is true Lol I am so different than most of my family. He then proceeded to make some vegetables for me. :) People are conditioned in certain areas.

100% Upvote and resteem.. how did I miss the fact you are a vegetarian? I had no idea, did you know I don't eat meat either? Great @steevc something else we can agree on. Lol

I'm not a proper veggie as I eat fish, but we can each make our own choices. I'm sure I've mentioned it before, but not sure I knew about you. I don't preach to others, but I'll happily discuss the issues. I think most people don't think or care too much about where their food comes from.

Children's literature needs to get back to the unsentimental horrors just like Helene Beatrix Potter :)

Just read Animal Farm to the kids ;)

When my eldest daughter was 8-9 years old I read Oliver Twist in the original not shortened and not softened version, and it was really a tough journey. But she survived! Maybe I should read Animal Farm for the youngest...

The human race have learned to cultivate vegetables, wind power, trees, and yes sadly enough also animals. I don't have a problem with it. But those who do become vegetarians. Thats life, people make choices. I like my rib eye or my hamburger :)

well observed! I hadn't thought of that before :)
my kids were told very early what they are eating. best way!

lesson learnt ;)

I have never been a vegetarian but i will give it a go one day, the firefighters should of just left the piglets in the fire to save some time lol

They obviously don't like their pork over-done.

Of course they saved the animals from a distressing death, but they would get killed in the end anyway.

I think that the evolution of human consciousness will in any case lead men to no longer eat meat.

haha its pure reality!

Hahaha i agree with you buddy the reality is diffrent from books stories :)
