Food Fridays #8
We took a detour last week as my wife was in town visiting and she insisted I take her to a decent dinner other than ramen. It just happened we were digging for tourmaline and aquamarine over the weekend in Pala, California, I'll write about that in my Monday Minerals series. Just down the road from the mine is the Pala casino, a 4 diamond resort that has a nice buffet. So we booked a night at the hotel and I promised I would treat my wife to a nice dinner.
After getting cleaned up in our room it was time to build up an appetite by winning some money! I was thinking how much $btc I'll be able to pick up and maybe another GPU to add to the rig from my winnings. The evening was going good. I was playing the Monte Python slot and I was up about $200 when we decided to hit the buffet.
I've always liked the decor of Pala casino, including the buffet. It matches the price tag of $40.00 per person don't you think? I'm a valued customer so we only ended up paying $25.00 ea! Steak and crab here we come!
The buffet has American, Asian and Mexican cuisine plus a desert bar that would make Willie Wonka jealous. Of course I made a b-line for the steak while my wife naturally went for the crab. When I saw her mountain of crab I remembered I had to grab some too! I added a seasoned chunk of pork, some red mashed potatoes and a bit of salad and created the miner's special.
The sirloin was good, but not amazing. The pork was overcooked which was a bummer because a good slice of pork cooked and seasoned right is delicious. The potatoes were fantastic, but we couldn't quite pin down that extra ingredient that made them so. The crab actually bored me rather quickly. I had about two legs and finally thought to myself, why the hell am I cracking open my food? I just want to eat, not work. So I enjoyed the rest of my steak and gave the rest of my crab to my wife.
My wife went all in on the crab. She did happen to grab some sirloin and piece of NY steak too though. We agreed to share that after I gave her my remaining crab. The NY steak was good and had a bit of fat that even though I knew I shouldn't have been eating, I indulged a bit.
After filling up on protein, it was dessert time! I decided to get out of my comfort zone of all chocolate all the time and get some fu fu European desserts. I picked up a cannoli, some creme brûlée and a strawberry dipped in their chocolate fountain. Ok, I can never get away from chocolate.
I started with the creme brûlée and that might have been a mistake. It was so damn good that I didn't care much for the cannoli or strawberry. Not that they weren't good, it's just that when the creme brûlée is good, nothing else matters.
Honestly, which one would you have picked??
We finished off with a bit of coffee and some tea and then it was back to the casino! Unfortunately I would end up losing money so no $BTC or new GPU that weekend. We had a great time though!

There are lots of luxurious foods.
Is enviable.
そうですね、でも日本の食べ物はさいこです!
great buffet restaurant with various foods. normally in korea i did not wanna go buffet restaurant because of low quality food and unreliable foods. Disappear my misconception With your buffet ..Thanks . Ready to start lunch.
How about buffets in Japan? I have been to a good breakfast buffet and decent dinner buffet, but none like American.
