How To Use Dehydrated Orange Peel

When I buy oranges, it is one of those fruits I will only buy organic because I like to use the peels in so many things. I do most of the dehydrating of them on the wood stove in the colder months and I have a video on that and how I use them at the bottom of this post but here are a few photos of things I add them to. In the photo above is my homemade organic orange cream pie. I used the dehydrated peels in the filling.

The photo below is the jar of peels I keep handy to throw into whatever suits me at the moment

The next photo is my orange apple spice bread with orange vanilla icing, I used the peels in the bread and in the icing as well.

This one is my orange-almond-cinnamon rolls. Again, I used the peels in the icing and in the cinnamon sugar mixture rolled up inside

Then there is my ultra healthy and energizing jet fueled latte blend - which I promise I will post a recipe to in the near future

Other things I like to do is mix it with crushed egg shells and encapsulate for my own homemade vitamin C and Minerals supplement.

In the video below that I made a few months ago, I explain how I dehydrate and more on how I used the peels. So many great ways to add flavor and more natural vitamin C to your diet!

Hope your day is going great and thank you for stopping in! ~Heidi

So much yes to this! I do this as well! Bioflavanoids are so great for you and the pith is just so full of it!
I use mine in tea and baking as you do. It's specially lovely in stuffing :)

Hope your day is lovely friend!

O yes, I add it to teas as well, I keep a jar of bigger dried pieces for that :D. Stuffing sounds wonderful, I will need to try that!

some really creative uses for the peel @raincountry, I'll have try using some myself!

Using egg shells as a human supplement is intriguing. I've heard of giving them to chickens. I saw your video about turmeric and pepper capsules. Making them yourself =no fillers!

I make eggshell capsules for Patrick but I usually just add a tsp to a bit of water or tea and drink it down. Cheap and natural way to get those minerals! :D

Wowzers- I might have to dust off the old dehydrator and get to work- these are all great ideas for using orange peels- and having that fresh flavor all year. Thanks!

Love being able to dehydrate using either my wood stove or my electric dehydrators plugged into our solar power. I dehyrate up tons of herbs and excess greens (grape leavers, dandelion leaves, kale, and much more) from the garden for medicinal and culinary uses. Dehydrating is just one of those ways to make the most of what you have! :D

And you just store in mason jars once they are dehydrated for everything? Do you need to put anything in as a desiccant or no?

The ones I show in the jar are the ones I use all the time so they are not sealed, but I do seal any of my excess that is not out for daily use into mason jars using my brake bleeder and food saver tops. I do not use a desiccant in my vacuum sealed herb jars, there is really no need

Great tips, thanks so much. Gotta look into a brake bleeder. I'm learning so much!! :)

Those treats look amazing!
What a lot of things you can do with orange peels.

I also have a food dehydrator. I like dehydrated pineapple the most. :-). Thanks for sharing!

Though I actually have three dehydrators, I only run those from spring to early fall when we are getting plenty of solar power to run them. When I dehydrate orange peel, I do that on my wood stove on a special rack my husband made for me.

Thats so nice to hv 3 dehydrators! I would dehydrate everything everyday! :-D. Thats so sweet your husband made that for you.

The peanut butter powder stores well because most of the fat has been removed; the downside to that is it's no longer a "whole" food that fills you up. It does have its uses though,so good to have around. Love your videos, thanks! I dehydrate almost anything that doesn't move :) and more so since I've been watching you and getting more ideas.
