Pistachio is a drought-resistant breed. In its wild habitats (Central Asia) it grows in places with a very dry and hot climate, where 250 mm of precipitation a year often falls out. It takes the summer heat up to 43 °, and winter frosts, according to various sources, from 21 ° to 32.8 °, and in mountainous Kazakhstan - up to 40 °. A cultivated pistachio can tolerate frosts up to 18 °, but so far this has not been established. Pistachio is more drought-resistant than almonds, but it blooms late and is not subject to frost.
According to the research, pistachio present prefer serozem, different in structure and mechanical composition, physical properties, aeration and salt regime. Good soil for it will also be typical dark sandy loamy and light loamy serozems with calcium in them and the absence of salts of sulfuric acid.
