Easy Vegetarian Chickpea Curry

in #food8 years ago

Tasty tasty chickpeas!!!

A favourite in our house - really quick and easy to make. Our three year old daughter loves it too and she can be a tad picky!

You will need

2 tins of chickpeas
1 largeish onion
2 cloves of garlic
2 Thai red finger chillis

1 tablespoon of paprika
1 heaped teaspoon cumin
1 level teaspoon coriander
1 teaspoon garam masala
Quarter of a teaspoon of turmeric
Pinch of fenugreek (Optional)
Tablespoon of soy sauce - dark
Half a tube of tomato paste about 100 grams
Pinch of salt

Some oil for frying

Some basmati rice or naan bread to enjoy with!

To make

Finely chop your onion, garlic and chilli.

Start frying your onion over a medium heat, don't stir too often, you want it to brown a little

Starting to brown

Once browning a little add your salt, garlic and chilli

Fry for a couple of minutes more and add all the powered ingredients.

Fry for a couple of minutes. Then add the tomato paste.

Stir it all in then add the soy sauce, stir that in and add three quarter of a pint of boiling water, it will bubble!!!

Action shot

Open them chickpeas

Maybe not that way

Stir them in

Now simmer that for ten to fifteen minutes till it thickens up nicely.

Serve with rice!!!

This post made me hungry. Going to try this tomorrow!

Excellent! I would recommend a naan with it!

A mi me gustan los garbanzos al curry. Muy ricos, se los dia a probar a mi mama y le gustaron! Solamente con cebollas salteadas, mantequilla y curry. Son sencillamente deliciosos.
I would like curried chickpeas

!mantequilla sería increíble¡

I see you have been Cooking. 👍

Yas indeed, coming up a storm!! :0)

That looks good. I have been wanting to try chickpeas.I'll have to remember this recipe.

It's a good one for trying them!

wow cool I like new recipes

Oh, man, I LOVE chana masala! I love vegetarian Indian food in general, and this dish was my introduction to it, back in college. This would be awesome with a bit of mango chutney on the side. :)

Good thinking!

Yum! We love chickpea curries! But to make it even better, do not use chickpeas from a can. Did you know that you could soak and cook a big batch and freeze them for up to a year? We always have them ready in the freezer. Yet another can with preservatives and additives that can be eliminated from your home ;-)

You know I had never really thought on that? I am definitely going to give that a try, the more savings and less cans the better!!! Thank you!!!

Looks great @meesterboom Im going to try this tonight, cheers!

Good show and thank you!

I love chickpeas. This is quite similar to chickpea curry. Delicious:)

Thank you, it is indeed one and the same just with an easy quick twist!!

Looks great! Making curry at home is far better than the premixxed packaged stuff!

It totally is, I always find more made curries to be awfully sweet

Likely so they appeal to more people, you can always add spice and chili but taking them out is impossible.

That's looks like a good quick meal, man. Nicely done 🙌🏻

Cheers, its all about the quick in this house!

That Chickpea Curry is tempting!

Thank you! Its my go-to emergency dish!

hmmm my mouth is watering I think its dinner time for me XD
awesome post, and no dead animals in a curry! fantastic :)

All the better for that eh!! :0)

So look this looks easy peezy, great way for me to enter vegetarian mode (trying real hard to give up or cut down substantially on the carnivore side of the equation). I will try this for sure and give you a full written report or at least a sentence or two. Thnks for posting, picy's look mouthwateringly lickable, trying to resist. Tesco's hmmm looks suspiciously like a Brit Curry variety . DId you ever do this, Bill Baily warns against it http://bit.ly/2bFurXF

It definitely is a Brit variety, Scottish to be precise!!! Lol. Haha, Bill Bailey is a funny man!!

well from a Welshman (living in the colonies) to your good self
Iechyd da!

Indeed!! Lechyd da!! Says me hoping it's some kind of greeting or some such!

Aaaahhh, yum!!! I can't get enough chickpeas in my life. I made a recipe very similar to this after I visited an authentic Indian restaurant in North Carolina in 2014. Can't wait to try your version :D

I hope you enjoy, I would be interested in seeing yours too!

The way you used photos in this post is really awesome. I love the demonstration photo on how to open the chickpeas.

Its the only way, anything else would be boring :O)

oh WOW I can't wait to make this!! I loooove chana masala! this is gonna be a repeat recipe in my house for sure

Ah Chana masala!! I had utter brain freeze on the correct name!!

hahaha no worries, that doesn't change the fact of how delicious this is gonna be.. :)

Excellent! I sometimes use a bit more soy than I mentioned above, and chilli. Didnt want to freak anyone out! Enjoy!
