There is very little preparation required and then a delicious dessert is ready.
This recipe leaves the skins on the apples so a lot of the fiber that is thrown away when you peel them is preserved.
Don’t be afraid to modify the basic recipe by adding different spices. Putting dried fruit in the centre along with the sugar can add a new dimension to this dish.
Ingredients:
- One apple per person
- One tablespoonful of sugar per apple
- A little lemon juice per apple
Directions:
- Wash and core the apples.
- Make some small cuts around the centre of the apple (the equator if the core was the line between the poles).
- Stand the apples in a baking dish.
Make the filling by mixing together the sugar, lemon juice and any spices or dried fruit you want to use.
Stuff each apple’s cavity. A little dab of butter on top of each apple helps create a toffee style sauce.
Put some water in the bottom of the baking tray and bake in a warm oven until soft.
Depending on oven temperature and the size of the apples this can vary but is usually about forty minutes.
I have an apple tree in my garden and the apples are ripe.
I think I will try this!
That looks great :)) Yummy! I just posted some cookies as well :)
