Cucurbita pepo and its vast differences. ~ Own work

Cucurbita pepo or zucchini or pumpkin pepo is an annual herbaceous plant species of genus gourd, gourd family. It has been domesticated in the New World for thousands of years. Are widely known forms, combining the name courgettes (lengthened fruits) and squashes (fruits of are flat, discoid). Gourds are divided into the 3 groups:decorative; large-fruited cultivate animal feeding; gourd are used to eating.
Miniature breeds pumpkin (or teddies), original in form, size and color are used for growing along fences and walls.

The indigenous people of North and South America ate only male flowers (those that grow on long thin stems), leaving the female flowers (the ones that have the ovaries) that they give off.

Before cooking the flowers, remove the outside prickly leaves. Pistils, if you wish, you can leave. The appetizers and soups taste pumpkin blossoms goes well with olive oil, young corn and pumpkin itself. For a stronger flavor, sauté the blossoms with some onion, garlic, herbs, and spices of your choice. You can also stuff the flowers with a mixture of cheese, onion and spices. Then dip them into a mass of beaten egg whites mixed with egg yolks, roll in breadcrumbs and fry in oil. The taste of an unforgettable!
