"What Can You Grow In Containers"

in #food7 years ago

What can you grow in containers at home, well the truth is there's not much you can't grow in containers and grow bags.

There are endless sections to choose from now it depends on where you live of course. And how long or short your growing season. Most important to me is what you enjoy growing and eating. After all harvesting and eating what you grow is the main reason for starting a garden of any kind.

We are in February now and to season for planting is getting closer. This is the time you really want to start thinking about what you want to plant in your garden. Weather or not you want to have a Spring Garden or a summer garden perhaps both. There are some things that do much better in the fall and spring of the year and there are some things that only grow during the summer months.

How much or how little it's up to you depending on the amount of space you have, time and financial resources. Yes there is a cost to installing a garden and even maintaining one. An organic garden has fees involved in it too from getting the right type of soil to organic fertilizer. Compost weather you decide to make or buy your own compost will play a part of your cost of having a garden.

Having and maintaining a garden is much more then just stinking a few seeds in some soil and seeing if will grow. No it takes nurturing , food and water in order to maintain and help it to reach its full potential and maximum yield.

We talked about the cost of having and even starting a garden but there are ways to off set the cost. If you buy fresh vegetables from your grocery store you can in some cases save the seeds or regrow from what you already ate. Yup bet you didn't think about that...well I have and it's great also a time saver. By regrowing you don't have as long to waite as you would if you were starting from seeds. One my favorite things to regrow are spring onions. Just save about 2 inches from the root plant in some good soil in a flower pot and within a week they are read to cut again. And leave them in and they will regrow a few more times for you. Talk about getting your money worth.

I will bring you more on this in the upcoming weeks. But here are a few other ideas on what you can grow in containers.
