Photos - A Typical Malaysian Food Day!

in #food8 years ago

I live in "food paradise" Malaysia. The land of 3 major ethnic groups Malay, Chinese and Indian and many other smaller ones.

We bring together a cuisine rich and diverse in variety, taste and flexibility.

Here's an idea of a typical day's meals for the common man/woman.

1. Nasi campur (mixed rice) - rice and a few meat/vegetables dishes selected from a huge variety.

2. Nasi lemak - rice cooked with coconut milk and eaten with a spicy sambal, cucumber slices and sometimes with egg, chicken etc.

3. Roti canai - an all-time favourite in Malaysia.

It's a wheat flatbread somewhat similar to the indian paratha which has now been totally Malaysianized.

Popular as breakfast food but also eaten with gusto for dinner or even supper, roti canai is a favourite of all ethnic groups in Malaysia.

Roti canai is often eaten dipped, dunked or flooded with dhal curry, chicken curry or fish curry. It is also eaten with sugar or condensed milk by young children or those who cannot tolerate spicy curries.

Fluffy and layered, it offers a sumptuous yet simple, totally satisfying meal!

4. Curry laksa - a spicy coconut milk-based soup with noodles, bean sprouts, fish balls, fish cakes, long beans etc
