Yes, it is possible! Cook once and forget about cooking again for a looooong time!
For some, cooking is a form of relaxing, but since having kids, all I want to do when I get home or finish my day is take off my heels, cuddle those little cheeks and dish up a feast (notice how I skipped ‘cook a feast’).
Over time, I’ve perfected a method of making nine scrumptious meals (enough for a family of two adult and two toddler mouths) in an hour. You read right – one hour! I then freeze these and on the day, all I do is defrost and add rice/pasta (which I also precook) and some fresh salad/veg.
It could not be easier! The method is really simple and you can chop and change it using different combinations of flavours. Here’s to fewer hours in the kitchen and more feasts!
Ingredients:
My method uses three large pots to cook up enough for three meals in each pot. Each recipe (one per pot) requires: an onion or two as a base; enough meat to feed you family for three meals; flavouring; a vegetable; and some form of liquid. I like to lay out my ingredients so that I have it all easily available when I start cooking.
Instructions:
Heat three pots on your stove and add some oil to each. Chop your onions coarsely and add onion to each of the pots. Fry briefly for two minutes. Next, add your meat to each pot and brown for 10 minutes before adding your chosen flavouring to each meat. Fry briefly for another minute before adding in your chosen vegetables and liquid to each pot. Cover your pots and allow to reach a slow boil. Give each pot a stir every 10 minutes. Depending on the type of meat, your meals will all be ready within an hour, or even sooner. Decant the contents of each pot into three freezer containers to total nine meals. Allow to cool and freeze.
For the example in this post, I have used these combinations. You can choose your own combinations, as long as you keep to the basic formula.
