WHY EAT BEANS?
WHY ARE BEANS CONCIDERATE AS SUPERFOOD?
- PACKED WITH PROTEIN
Beans are packed with plant proteins which are the best kind of protein. Vegetarians or vegans who don't eat meat or poultry can use this alternative since about 1/2 cup of beans provides 7 grams of protein which is as much as 1 ounce of chicken or meat.
- HEALTHY HEART
Because beans contain an abundance of soluble fiber which lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels which means, healthy heart. Just 7 grams of this fiber, significantly can lower your risk of developing any of these conditions.
Beans also provide a good source of magnesium and potassium which are the key minerals for a healthy heart.
- FILLED WITH FIBER
It is recommended by scientists that adults should consume 3 cups of beans/week to reduce the risk of chronic diseases like cancer and just promote overall health, mainly because of their abundance of fiber and antioxidants.
- NUTRIENT-RICH
Beans also contain a powerhouse of nutrients which include: antioxidants, vitamins and minerals like copper, iron, magnesium, folate, zinc and manganese. If you are not getting enough of important nutrients, beans can help you with that.
- HIGH IN IRON
The most common nutritional deficiency is the iron deficiency which is the leading cause of conditions where your body is lower than normal red blood cell count.
- MAY REDUCE CANCER RISK
Because beans are rich in antioxidants, which play a role in protecting against free radicals which could damage your cells, which leads to cancer.
Other substances found in beans may also play a role in fighting cancer. Saponins, in particular, has shown to block the reproduction of cancer cells and also slow the growth of tumors.

The carbs we get from the beans get absorbed at a slower rate over a longer period of time, which helps to keep your blood sugar steady thanks to the fiber and protein we also get from the beans. That is one of the reasons why beans help to keep diabetes at bay.

Beans are awesome. You should check out the bloodtype diet (Dr. D'Adamo). It really worked for me. Some beans are beneficial for one blood group and not good for the other. When I followed my blood type 0 diet, and avoided Kidney beans and maximized on Adzuki beans, I felt tons better! Thanks for great article @joalvarez !

Something as surprising as oranges can actually be harmful for you if you're my bloodtype and guess what- I really feel better leaving them out and eating what boosts my O type diet the most! Here is the book cover. Beware, he also wrote "Eat right 4 your type" , but the "Live" one is more recent and all comprehensive. A true gem!

Yes, beans really are a superfood 👍 It's got so many important nutrients in them as you've mentioned @joalvarez, and as a person on a plant-based diet I believe that it really is an important food for us.
I find it very useful for myself to soak the beans in water for a few hours before cooking them, or even soaked overnight. It helps a lot with my digestion and doesn't cause flatulence. But doing this does strip it away of some of its nutrients, so I just make sure I also use that same water it was soaked in to cook with, or just do a slow cook instead.

I'll definitely try soaking them overnight. I did it one time just to see if they would cook faster this way, but it didn't make any difference but I didn't pay attention if it was helpful with my digestion, so I'll pay more attention this time.

I thought I heard of that beans were great for your brain right with the peanuts, when I was pregnant and that is why I was trying to eat more of it.

hometown my firend is Alag, Baco Oriental Mindoro Philippines , it's a rural area, so there are lots of land spaces haha where you can plant anything you want

While beans is truly nutritious...it lacks 3 key amino acids; lysine methionine and tryptophan so if you're eating beans, try eating or adding other food materials supplying these key essential amino acids....
