Wake up, pour a cup, get on with life.
Enough poetry. This is not a competition, they can both be allies. Let's examine the pros, cons and similar qualities of these world class beverages.
Coffee
Pros:
- Contains caffeine, more than tea.
- High levels of antioxidants (more than tea per cup)
- Stimulates metabolism
- Quick results
Cons:
- Generally high acidity levels
- Can contain mold unseen to the naked eye
Tea
Pros:
- High levels of antioxidants
- Potent anti-cancer properties
- Low acidity
- Stimulates metabolism
- Contains caffeine
Cons:
- Tea plants readily uptake flouride which can lead to unhealthy levels in the finished product. This depends on this soil and water used.
Positive qualities the allies share (and some random facts):
- Sustainable to grow. Tea bushes can live for thousands of years, coffee bushes to around 40. The oldest known tea tree is estimated to be 3,200 years old!
- Both are high in antioxidants. Though coffee has more per cup, it contains more caffeine which can lead to the jitters or even the jimmies getting rustled. For most people, tea can be sipped all day long, no problem, which makes it a more reliable source of antioxidants.
- Metabolism stimulation. Tea takes the center stage for weight loss. Coffee wins the gold medal for helping you poop.
- Caffeine.
When you say tea, of which plant are you talking about?
Camellia sinensis (white, green, black and oolong tea).
