Historians have trace the delicacy to have originated from the Senegambian (senegal-Gambia) region that was ruled by the Jolof Empire (also known as Wollof or Wollof empire).
There has been a long rivalry between Nigerian and Ghanian Jollof, as to whose version of the delicacy tastes better.
Jollof rice is one of the most common dishes consumed in Western Africa.
Jollof rice is the initiator or inspiration for the Louisianian (USA) dish, Jambalaya (American jollof).
In Wolof tribe, it is referred to a ‘one pot’ meal which is where the name jollof was derived.
Jollof rice is not a morning meal. It’s an evening meal.
