In my introduction post I mentioned my love for food. So now that I have been on Steemit for about ten days it is time to publish my first food related post.
I have been inspired by Steemians like @zouxx, @sanchezpuuko, @allasyummyfood and many others. So, here it goes.
In our family there's a dish that has become the traditional first meal at family gatherings. Once a year we spend a weekend together and start it off with sweet/spicy chicken wings, nasi goreng, satay sauce and atjar tjampoer.
No, we're not Indonesian ;-) As a student my grandfather rented a room in Amsterdam from an Indonesian landlady. In her tiny kitchen this lovely woman created the most beautiful dishes with flavours he had never smelled before. Every evening my grandfather would linger in the kitchen and learn and learn.
Long story short: my grandfather ended up helping out his landlady most evenings and by doing so learned how to cook all these great Indonesian dishes himself. Although he passed away many years ago, we all still love him for passing on all those recipes.
Oh yeah, as my lovely cousin Sarah pointed out rightfully, asking: "but what has my dad's name in the title of this post have to do with the story about grandpa?" The Indonesian angle came from my grandfather, but the recipe I am sharing in this post was my uncle's and was passed on to me by Sarah.
So now that we've got that all settled, let's get down to business.
Need an easy snack for a party? Want to indulge in fingerfood? Want to stock up your freezer for a busy day?
Today I present to you a lovely recipe for sweet and spicy chicken wings.
Sweet and Spicy Chicken Wings
Ingredients
- 1 kg (2 lbs.) chicken wings (roughly 10 wings)
- 2 tbsp sunflower oil
- 2 tsp (smoked) paprika powder
- 3.5 tbsp sweet soy sauce (ketjap manis)
- 1 tbsp salt soy sauce (ketjap asin)
- 2 tsp sambal badjak
- 4 cloves garlic
- freshly ground black pepper
- salt
Preparation
Put all the ingredients together in a bowl, cover with cling film and marinate in your fridge for 8 to 12 hours.
Preheat the oven to 220ºC (425 F).
Put the marinated chicken wings in an oven dish with the 'good' side downwards and bake for 20 minutes (Don't throw away the marinade yet.).
After 20 minutes, turn over the chicken wings and pour a little bit of the marinade over the wings.
Then put the dish back in the oven for another 10 minutes. You can turn on the grill function for a nice crispy crust.
Now feast your taste buds!
Next #food post will be Nasi Goreng.
Enjoying the family recipes
Nice. Looks very delicious, thanks for the recipe @hatsekidee
You're welcome @zouxx. It's not only very delicious but also extremely easy. All you need is to start preparations the day before to really allow the marinade to penetrate the chicken wings.
Wow
I think that its delicious food
It sure is @shihabieee!
