What could I possibly be referring to? A lost treasure? An archaeological dig site revealing the secrets of a past culture? The missing cipher piece to finally translate the Zodiac Killer's messages? Fossils in a cave that prove the existence of Bigfoot?
All of these things are fine and dandy, but my search was considerably more important and after over a decade of fruitless search, the wait is finally over because i have found it. That's right, I finally found an authentic Reuben sandwich in South East Asia.
Eureka!
Like most of the discoveries I have made in my life, the final part of the journey was completed during a random conversation at a bar with strangers. No one thought my journey was foolish because there are certain aspects of food in this part of the world that simply don't exist. A major part of the reuben process is the key ingredient - which is corned beef. This deli meat simply isn't in this part of the world and the only reason why it was at this particular establishment is because the owner makes it.
He is, of course, as most great adventures have, a King: A King of the highest order and his subjects all throughout the land celebrate his rule.
The Sausage King might be my favorite King on the planet. He certainly brings me more joy than a vast majority of the others and my devotion to his generous rule is not at all faked. I accidentally moved into his Kingdom, and only found out in the past few days that his castle was just over a mile from my own modest house.
Because he is a modest ruler, his domicile isn't even very easy to find and once you are there you aren't even certain you have arrived. Once I realized I was in the correct place i threw my steed on the ground (the orange one on the right) and rushed indoors and in my excitement I actually sat down on a chair that was wet. This did not quell my enthusiasm in the slightest. I moved to another table and was delighted to receive the tome that was their menu.
Much to my chagrin, there was no reuben on the menu... but I was not about to have the journey end in disappointment and called my serving wench over to clarify if they in fact, had the famed reuben or not. She begrudgingly informed me that they do have it and I needed to know the password in order to receive it as well as the name of the informant who told me about the location. I had neither of these pieces of information and found it necessary to bribe the messenger.
About 20 tense minutes later, my treasure arrived... in all it's glory.
It was such a monument of inefficiency that I felt compelled to explore the aperture features on my phone. I don't know if I am doing it correctly but it didn't matter at this point as I could wait no more. I savored every bite as not only did they have all the ingredients, but they actually assembled them properly and it was cooked in a sandwich press, to perfection using plenty of butter.
mission accomplished
This is a lot more food than i would normally have and sadly, the King was not accepting well-wishers or any other sort of audience this day. I will have to try my hand at meeting his royal highness at some point in the future.
A truly unique gem of an establishment. This place, unlike most of the others in this fine polluted city, is definitely worth the journey from the city in order to dine here. They are only open during the day, which is a bit sad that dinner isn't possible here, but the King makes his own rules and you either play by them, or miss out on the best sandwich I have had in likely 15 years that wasn't made by my mother.
smart move not to waste precious space on fries
yep, too common no matter how special they try to make them. Going back tomorrow for another reuben!
Woah! I just want that sandwich! I just hope it was as good as it looks :) Great photos and a nice, short, information dense post :D

i do what i can for the people.... and my stomach
and you have to honor the sausage king! xD
That's a nice story with happy end.
Also the bread looks really appealing.
That food looks delicious. My particular guilty pleasure when it comes to sandwiches is a good philly cheese steak. Making my mouth water just thinking of one.
me too. I want some of that Philly cheesy goodness :)
Beautiful! You can always tell a good food blog by how hungry you are by the end :-)

it was an enormous portion. I ignored the fries because I wanted to save space for the main attraction :)
but the fries seem to be homemade mhhh I had a slice of pizza for breakfast but a portion homemade fries would be great now.
