The Sushi Damage

in #food3 years ago

Hello everyone. Today I want to share about a particular incident about how I ended up disliking sushi till this day.

So, my girlfriend found a new sushi place that opened up on the far side of the city. She found it in Instagram and now she had to have it. It was a rainy day and I didn't feel like riding till there, but hey, she had to have it. So we hopped in her scooter, wore a raincoat and the next hour was a total adventure. The wind was blowing hard and it was getting colder by the minute, both drenched in rain with one thing on our mind, crab sushi. Yes, they had crab sushi. I think it was first in town, well, at least first time I ever heard of it. Usually its veg or tuna for all I know. I'm not a sushi fan.

Anyway, we got there but we were going in circles trying to find the place, still raining, my feet were getting cold and just when I was about to give up and get some hot soup, we found the place. It was a little inside the corner and the board was not visible.
We went inside, it was a lot smaller than I expected, but it was cozy. We ordered 2 types of sushi for the first round, California Uramaki (crap, avocado and sesame seed) and Chicken Foto Maki (chicken, egg, cucumber, pickled radish, carrot and spinach)

I did not like it. Crab tasted weird but she loved it! She ate the whole plate, I stuck to the chicken because it was more familiar. I was full by this time but she had some space left for Egg Gimbap. I cant believe a tiny human like her can gobble up so many Gimbap/Sushi. We had some hot coffee because it was still raining and we were kind of cold.

The owner was a humble lady who had worked overseas for over 10 years. She worked in a big hotel and specialized in making sushis. She told us about her experiences and she came back to her homeland to open up a business. It had only been 2 weeks since she opened up that place and she was surprised how long we traveled just for her sushis. Apparently her husband had opened an Instagram account for her and posted those there. She told us that chicken sushi was not very common outside of our home country but she started making those just to fit in with the locals here. She also asked for some feedback and my girlfriend said she was very happy with the quantity because the meat was in ample amount compared to other places.

Alas, we headed back home. Still lightly raining. Midway through the ride, my stomach started grumbling and by the time I got home I got sick. It was very unpleasant and I concluded that I am not a sushi person, never was, especially with crab. Turns out I only liked it because she liked it xD

I don't think I can ever look at sushis the same way again. I had never had sushi after that uneventful day.
