When I post about food, I mainly post about spicy Indonesian food. I just can't help it. My mom comes from Padang, a city in Indonesia where they eat more spicy food than other places in Indonesia. I myself have never been to Padang, so I would love to go to Padang and eat all the spiciest food there including authentic Rendang! I just can't visualise a world without chillies. I even eat French/Belgium fries with chilli sauce. When I look at this image I feel like cooking this dish again, it's just mouth watering. Making this dish doesn't take long: 1,5 hour. (This is "short" for Indonesian people.)
Ingredients
For this dish you don't need so many ingredients. Trust me, for an Indonesian dish this one has a "few" ingredients.
750 gram potatoes. There are two types of potatoes here in Holland, one that is mainly for boiling and the other type of potatoes are the ones that you can use either for frying or boiling. That one you will need for this dish.
2 large onions
6 garlic cloves
6 Lombok chillies (or small Spanish peppers)
2 pieces of fresh ginger
1 large tomato cut in pieces
half tea spoon salt
one tea spoon sugar
6 large full table spoon of chilli paste ( red rawit)
400 gram pandan rice
450 gram shrimps without shell
Instructions
For the rice you will need a rice cooker. Rinse and wash the rice. Add enough water and let it cook in the rice cooker.
In the meantime you can cut the potatoes in cubes.
Take a deep frying pan, add a lot of sunflower oil and once the oil it hot, you can put the potato cubes inside.
While waiting for the potatoes to fry and the rice to cook, you can take a food processor and mix Lombok chillies, onions and garlic.
Take a non stick deep fry pan, add some sunflower oil. Once the oil is hot add the mixed chillies, garlic, onions, two pieces of ginger and tomato pieces. Stir it with medium till high heat.
Check your potato cubes. If they are golden brown you can take them out using a lot of kitchen paper. Then go for the next round of potatoes, I fry the potatoes in two parts because 750 gram potatoes will not fit in the pan that has limited oil inside.
When the mix is half soft, you can add the chilli paste, sugar and salt into the pan. Stir it couple of times and turn the heat a bit lower.
Take the shrimps and put it in the oil to fry. Once they are a bit crispy from the outside, you can take them out and put them on kitchen paper to rid of excess oil.
When the chilli mix is completely soft, you can add the potatoes and shrimps to the pan with the mix. Stir it for 10 minutes till all ingredients are absorbed in the potatoes and shrimps.
Now it is time to enjoy your dinner.
Is your mouth watering too? Or you don't like spicy food at all?

I am now drooling! So, in your house, who likes spicy food beside you, @fathin-shihab?
Hahaha. Anak saya yg paling tua. Dr umur 2 thn. Dulu pernah terjadi, saya siapkan mi pedas dan gak taunya makanannya berkurang di piring. Saya cari di lantai mungkin jatuh. Ternyata anak saya waktu dia umur 2 thn, ambil makanan saya dan mi nya dimakan.

Thank you! Hehehe, yes we both are from a country that offers food with many spices inside. So we are used to this kind of food. You eat rendang already? Yes, its delicious! I like to eat Indian too. We order once in a month Indian food that comes together with nan bread. Sometimes I make Biryani rice too. There is an Asian grocery shop that sells also Indian spice mixes, herbs for Biryani and many others. Really love biryani rice with chicken breast, coriander, cream and madame jeanette chillies.
That looks amazing, wow. I do most of the cooking in my household so I'm going to add it to my recipes to try. I've never had Indonesian food, I think it might be time.
