David Rocco is an executive producer from Canada. He is also a best-selling author, celebrity chef and the host of many syndicated television programs shown internationally. The picture above is from his archives from the television program "David Rocco's Dolce Napoli." The view behind him is breathtaking. Flipping through the channels that came with my fubo-TV subscription, I came across one entitled Tastemade. It appears to be a decent source of food and travel programs. Rocco's program stood out because the Italian side of my family dates back to Naples. I have never been there, but it is on my bucket list. Unfortunately, our current world situation has put a damper on any travel plans at the moment.
There are many factors as to why I fell in love with this program. The number one reason is I love learning about the culture. Plus, Rocco has a way of making every episode entertaining. The best was when he entered himself into a donkey race with the idea of representing Canada. Not being prepared for such an adventure, he was able to have a tee shirt made, as well as oven mitts that indicated his Canadian roots. He was born in Toronto, Ontario. Rocco also does an exceptional job at presenting the tastiness and musicality of the Napoli way. In addition, he wouldn't be who he is without doing some of his own cooking while there. Although, some of the Italian mothers pushed him out of the kitchen!
During his journey throughout the city of Naples, as well as the area around the city such as Capri, Ischia and Procida, the viewer gets introduced to many characters that help bring the southern Italian traditions to life. One person that stands out is a Napolitano referred to as Mr. Time. This native Italian can tell you how many steps it will take to get anywhere on the island. There also is a beautiful tradition in their cafes where a person would order two cups of coffee, with the extra one being for someone who couldn't afford one of their own.
David Rocco currently has four cookbooks available through bookstore websites and retail outlets. He has made appearances on "Top Chef Canada" and "Iron Chef America." He was also the lead judge on "Donut Showdown." In addition, Rocco created his own wine label known as David Rocco's Dolce Vita. As far as I can tell, it is available as a Prosecco, Chianti and Pinot Grigio. Known for their pizza and espresso, Naples also appears to be a place filled with great food, fishing and music. Every episode brings across a feel-good atmosphere that is very much needed in today's world.
