Great Sangria Recipe!!

in #food7 years ago

I make this great sangria and my friends love it....they DEMAND it every party I throw.

Ingredients:

3 bottles (750 ml) of wine (I prefer Cabernet Sauvignon or sometimes do a mix of 2 cab and 1 merlot)

1 bottle (750 ml) of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum

2 limes

2 lemons

2 oranges

2 apples (crisp ones like honey crisp, empire, or red delicious are recommended)

1 jar (6 oz is fine) of maraschino cherries

1 cup white sugar

2 cups orange juice (not from concentrate, with pulp is good)

1 & 1/2 cups of water

Instructions:

Get a beverage dispenser container (like this: https://www.target.com/p/plastic-6-7l-beverage-dispenser-clear-with-turquoise-lid/-/A-51470357) or a large pot or igloo water jug.  Pour in all the wine and rum.  Slice the lemons, limes, and oranges, squeeze/crush them with your hands over the sangria and put them into the sangria when done.

Chop the apples up to small pieces and put into the sangria.  Open the jar of cherries and pour all the cherry juice into the sangria.  Take the cherries and cut them in half then place them into the sangria.

Pour in the sugar, orange juice, and water.  Mix well.

Cover it up and place in a refrigerator.   Stir every few hours or so.

Letting the sangria sit overnight helps it mellow out.   So try to make it the day before your party.  But in a pinch you can make it 4 or 5 hours before your party and it will be just fine.

Serve in a glass over ice.  I like to serve it using a ladle.  Ensure you provide a good scoop of the fruit.  Provide a fork and a straw with each glass.  Recommend your guests  pick out the the apples and cherries to eat.

WARNING...this sangria is really good...but has a good bit of alcohol in it and it can creep up on you.  I often get comments from friends who had like 3 glass while sitting down and when they stood up they were like "holy crap I am tipsy!"

Enjoy!
