RE: Pathogens explored; features that set microbial parasites apart from their innocent relatives

in #food7 years ago

In my opinion I don't think humans have encountered since the emergence of our species. We encountered disease because of our lifestyle choices. We migrated away from our species specific diet of raw fruits and vegetables, it compromised our blood, lymph, and nervous systems, and created dis-ease. Strong immunity and clean, filtering lymph fluid, can combat and disease or pathogen. Thank you for sharing though. Namaste

thank you for your comment. i agree that healthy lifestyle would impact on your health. However, one question to consider: if pathogens were not the main cause of disease, why would we (and plants) need to have an immune system? If lifestyle were the only factor dictating disease (or not), then there would have been strong selection against it but yet, we evolved as a species that consume both meat and plants.

Finally, it is well known that animals living in the wild do get sick. i imagine that they are following their natural intended diet, but yet they do get fed on by parasites.

I would say we have an immune system to definitely defend against harmful outside invaders. I'm not certain though that humans have yet evolved to handle meat effectively as we know meat is currently destroying our health. Animals get sick in the wild for sure, but they at least have natural response mechanisms that aren't interfered with by say...Doctors who promote antibiotics and chemotherapy. Parasites can find latch on to a host, but ideally for a short time. Good discussion :)
