How to grow truffles

in #food8 years ago (edited)

The truffle, a rarisim and extremely fragrant mushroom that grows on the roots of certain trees in the forests, is perceived as extremely difficult to digest, only by the pickers initiated, with the help of dogs or gurus trained to do this work.

The minimum cost of setting up a hectare is around 18,600 euros. To this is added the costs of land closure, with the implementation of the irrigation system. The purchase of small machinery or equipment for crop maintenance (dish, mowing, possibly spraying) is also to be taken into account for those farmers who do not already have them.

Tree species that can be seeded with mycelium are diverse : Oak, hornbeam, pine, hazelnut, perfect hosts

The explanation of the importers for the higher appetite for hazelnuts than for oak is as follows: "Customers prefer hazelnuts, because while an oak plantation only gives truffles, one of hazelnuts also gives truffles and hazelnuts. But in the oak the productivity period is longer, reaching up to 50 years, unlike hazelnut, where the period is only 30-35 years. Italian scientists have noticed that the oak mite, when it reaches 4-5 meters high, stops growing. The plant does not rise, but only thickens over time. This causes the root system to develop much more, which automatically means more truffles. Shark exchange between tree and truffle is much larger and grows much better than hazelnuts that do not grow very high. And larger truffles are another quality and another price.

Short story straight you don't need a pig to get truffles !!!
