For years and years I was one of those people who skipped breakfast (insert guilty face) even though I knew how important breakfast was, especially when it comes to kick starting your metabolism. My main reason for doing so was my dislike of regular breakfast favourites such as cereal, yoghurt and eggs, so I felt like there was nothing I really wanted to eat for breakfast.
Then I got introduced to green smoothies, which I love, and satisfy both the foodie and the health nut in me. However I am one of those people who struggle to eat (or in this case drink) the same foods monotonously over and over again and crave variety and options. Because of this I like to keep things interesting with my smoothie making adventures chopping and changing the recipes all the time resulting in a multitude of different coloured concoctions.
So today I thought I would share with you my favourite go to breakfast smoothie at the moment. This recipes boasts a lot of health benefits and contains some power packed ingredients to help start the day off right getting in some healthy carbs, healthy fats and plant based protein which helps me feel energised and satiated.
Coconut water 250ml
Ice cubes (1 tray)
Bananas (2)
Medjool Dates (2)
2 table spoons oats
1 teaspoon coconut oil
1 table spoon chia seeds
¼ teaspoon Maca Powder
Blend till all ingredients are combined, note add more or less liquid to obtain desired consistency.
For a more easily digestible and deliciously sweet smoothie be sure to use well ripened bananas. if they have spots on the skins then they are good to go.
