Buttercream Bouquet - A Mini How-To

in #food6 years ago

Hey friends!

So some of you may know that I love to bake and decorate cakes, and I’ve been toying with the idea of making our wedding cake when the time comes…

A couple weeks back I made a little practice cake to take up north for our families to taste-test, so of course I had to decorate it :)

Anyway, I just made a little video showing you guys the basic method of making small roses out of buttercream… Watching a video tutorial is what taught me how to make them, and seeing someone else do it makes the learning and practice process SO much easier!

You can mess around with different piping tips and techniques, and really make a design your own… I really like the jam-packed, lush looking floral sprays across cakes these days - it’s super fun to fill in the gaps in your design with different textures, colors, flowers and greenery, all made of buttercream!

While I wasn’t crazy about how the colors of the icing turned out, I didn’t feel like making another whole batch of frosting just for a practice cake so I just rolled with it and completed the design with what I had.

In the end, I think it turned out to be pretty cute, and I had a really fun time decorating it - that’s always my favorite part of the process!

The reviews of the flavor from our families were good too (vanilla coconut cake with mango cream cheese filling and coconut cream cheese buttercream), so I think we have a winner there thankfully :) but when it comes down to crunch time, I think I might just decorate the cake with fresh greenery and real flowers instead…

Why? Because it’s WAY easier and less time consuming! I’m sure there will be many more opportunities in life for me to decorate with buttercream under far less stressful circumstances, and I want to be able to kick back and enjoy the days leading up to our wedding as much as possible. Plus, by using the same flowers as all of our arrangements it’ll seamlessly match our decor :)

But no matter what, I’m just happy to have options so I can “panic decide” what I want to do at the 11th hour - that’s my MO historically anyway! :D

So I hope you enjoy this little tiny video, and let me know in the comments if you’d like to see more and/or different videos on this kind of thing!

Please feel free to comment, upvote, or resteem if you’d like! :)

That looks yummy and also it is an ideal cake to give on anniversary to tell your partner how much you love them

Thank you! I think it would be a nice anniversary cake too :)

I myself learned baking cakes through video tutorial so I could totally relate. By the way, the designs on your cake were spot on. The peaches and cream color combined with green really suits the cake. Loved it.

You did great! The first time I did it the humidity made my roses soft and they spread out a bit. It is a tedious thing to do, takes practice for sure. Whatever you decide to do, I am sure your cake will be perfect for your day :)

Thank you so much! You're so sweet :) yes, all of the environmental factors can be really challenging! When I made my brother's wedding cake the heat was on in our house, so I had to bundle up and assemble it outside in the dead of winter so that everything didn't melt and slide around haha :D
