Dear Steemians friend,
Semarang city in central Java province, Indonesia also has some traditional food, one of them is Tahu Gimbal. Tahu Gimbal, the main ingredients consist of fried tofu, lontong, sprouts, sliced cabbage, eggs and gimbal. Gimbal is a shrimp that is fried with flour and shaped like a shrimp bakwan (corn flitter with shrimp). The way of serving tahu gimbal, lontong (food consisting of rice steamed in banana leaf) and gimbal is cut in small pieces using scissors and put into the dish or styrofoam box, then put in the other ingredients such as sprouts, sliced cabbage, fried eggs and spread with fried onions on it. And then spread with peanut spicy sauce and as flavoring when we eat it, we can add soy sauce and chili sauce according to taste, and other than that the seller of tahu gimbal usually add chips.
At first glance, Tahu Gimbal is almost the same as Pecel, but there is a difference between the two, is the ingredients that are used. Tahu Gimbal does not use full vegetables like a dish called Pecel (Pecel is salad made of blanched vegetables served with peanut sauce), tahu gimbal only use slices of cabbage and sprouts. Tahu Gimbal and Pecel both use peanut spicy sauce, but the peanut spicy sauce on Tahu Gimbal more dilute, and also added petis (condiment of fermented shrimp), so as to give a distinctive taste and different from Pecel. Tahu Gimbal is very easy to find in Semarang, because many of the sellers who peddle either peddlers or on the street food stalls.
