Ambrosia.eats : The history and mysteries behind foods - New channel!

in #food7 years ago

Hello Steemit family!

My name is Thomas and here I am with a brand new project a have been wanting to launch for a very long time!

I’ve always been very interested in food and culinary history and I would like to share my passion with you all. Make ourselves learn about new recipes, but also the secrets behind all those fascinating dishes. i have a some interesting ones planned already.

So what better way to start by explaining the name of my page:

Some of you may have wondered why « Ambrosia »? What can it possibly mean?

In Greek mythology, Ambrosia (In Greek: « immortal ») was considered the food or drink of the Olympian gods, and it was thought to bring long life and immortality to anyone who consumed it. It was often linked to Nectar, the other element that the gods consumed. It was thought that Ambrosia was the food and Nectar was the drink of the gods. Ambrosia was supposedly brought up to the Olympus through white doves.
In general, Ambrosia was only consumed by deities; when Heracles achieved immortality, Athena offered him Ambrosia; while when Tantalus tried to steal some to give to other mortals, he was punished for committing hubris. Whoever consumed Ambrosia no longer had blood in their veins, but another substance called Ichor.

This is why it made sense to me to name this channel with this food related word full of history.

Stay tuned, a lot of awesome recipes and histories are about to come!
