Makanan peranakan cina ini merupakan salah satu kuliner khas yang harus dicicipi jika berkunjung ke Kota Keripik Pisang ini. Awalnya mie pangsit ini dikenalkan oleh warga Tionghoa sekitar 40 tahun yang lalu di sebuah warung milik warga keturunan cina, di Jln. Mawar bertepatan di depan Kantor Telkom Bireuen. Hingga kini masih menyajikan makanan ini.

Dikatakan mie pangsit khas Bireuen lantaran kuliner tersebut tak sepenuhnya mengadopsi resep dari warga Tionghoa. Setelah dimodifikasi dan disesuaikan dengan selera lidah penduduk lokal, lahirlah varian baru yang disebut mie pangsit Bireuen.
