[Recipe] Thai Summer Salad (Som Tum a la aey)

in #food7 years ago (edited)

Hi, today I made Sum Tum with turnip cabbage instead of green papaya as like my followers know already its quite expansive here in Germany.

If you ask me thats a really tasty, easy and quickly made summer salad. You can serve as a starter, with your BBQ or as main dish with grilled chicken on top.

What you need:

  • 5 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 3 tablespoons palm sugar or golden brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons fish sauce
  • 2-3 tablespoons dried shrimp (chopped if you want)
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • ~1.5 pound turnip cabbage
  • 10 large cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2-3 medium carrots
  • 1 corncob, cooked
  • 1-3 fresh red Thai chile with seeds, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons coarsely chopped salted peanuts

If you want you could add 1/2 cup of chopped fresh cilantro and / or 1-2 green onions

What to do:

  • Whisk lime juice, sugar, fish sauce, dry shrimps and garlic in a medium bowl and let it set for later. If you can plan and prepare it a few hours before you eat it will be even better.
  • Peel turnip cabbage and carrots with a julienne peeler and place it in a large bowl.
  • Add tomatos, corn and chillies (and cilantro / green onions)
  • Mix well with the dressing and sprinkle peanuts over just before you serve.

Good apetite!

Yummmm so good, I make so many Salads in my Mortar and Pestle now with Thai Flavors lol. Even Green Bean Salad so good, just made video for our Youtube on it a few days ago. I use soy instead of fish sauce though 🙈🙈
