Orchid belongs to the familia Orchidaceae (orchid family) The world's orchid reaches ± 30,000 species, while in Indonesia there are> 5,000 species of orchids (1/6) .The characteristic of orchid flowers is the flowers have labellum or in general people call it the lips. The labellum, which distinguishes various species of orchids, also has pseudobulb which is the thickening or bulging of stems (fake bulbs) and serves to store water and food reserves.The orchids have roots that are useful to adhere to the substrate, absorb water and food, and photosynthesis.On the root of the orchid there is a double velvic epidermis, which is white, serves as a place for symbiosis with mycorrhiza.When observing the orchids in the home pekarang or even when we take a visit to the nursery, we observe that the orchid has a stem growth direction different, can be divided into two namely anggr simpodial and monopodial oak. The simpodial orchids have generally grown traits, the ends of the stems have limited growth, the stems stop growing after the flower out, and after the maturation of the flowering, and die it will be followed by new puppies. Examples of simplex orchids are orchids of the genus Dendrobium, Cymbidium, Grammatophyllum, Eria, and others. While orchids that include monopodial orchids have characteristics that are infinite stem growth, adult flowering stems continue to grow elongated, and often encountered puppies in the stem. Examples of orchids are included in the monopodial orchids of the genus Vanda, Phalaenopsis, Arachnis, Ascocentrum, and others.
