Everybody and their mama are talking about their fitness journeys these days and you want to know what that's all about. Well, here's my definition of a "fitness journey:" a continual effort to making healthy progress and becoming a fitter and even more fabulous version of yourself! You may be like "yeah, that sounds good but how do I do it? I don't even know where to start." Well, that's why you clicked on this article right?! I'm here to help!
Step 1: Find YOUR why
Don't do this for others. Your embarkation towards a healthier lifestyle is all. about. YOU. hunty! That glow up will be all about you too ;) Why do you want to start a fitness journey? Is it because you've seen others' transformation pics on insta and you want some of that magic too? If so, that's ok but go deeper and really examine yourself. How do you feel right now, in this present moment? What do you want to change? Why? When you've done some self-exploration and have your answer, it'll lead you to step number two.
Step 2: Set a goal
You might find that your goal is super specific like "I want to have these measurements and be able to run this fast and lift this much." Or your goal could be general like, "I just want to feel better in my body." Whatever your goal may be, write it down somewhere that you'll see it everyday. Memorize it. Internalize it. Let that be what pushes you to get up and exercise even when you don't really feel like it and all you want to do is make excuses. Let your goal be so important to you that it motivates you to actually finish your workout and not just stop when you're tired.
Step 3: Just do it!
This is the most important step of all. You've strategized, now it's time to execute. You know why you want to start your fitness journey, you've set your goals, now you just have to put it all together and do it. Choose somewhere to workout . It can be outside, at a gym, or in the living room. If you're brand spankin' new to exercise and you live a more sedentary lifestyle, taking a walk around the block may be all you need to start feeling positive results. If you're already active but you don't have a dedicated workout routine, try going on a run or to a group class for your first sweat sesh. In simple terms, start today and move your body.
As time goes on, sure you can do more research on how to structure your routine towards meeting your goal, you can get a personal trainer, sign up for races etc. but that's down the line. Right now you have all the tools you need to get started. Try not to over complicate it. All you need is to hydrate, eat well, move your body, and rest. Seriously, that's all you need. Everything else is extra!
Let me know in the comments section where you are in your fitness journey! :)
