Will sit ups give you abs?

in #fitness7 years ago

The answer is no! Sit ups will not give you abs. The abdominal muscles are just stabilizer muscles and are not primary muscles. You will never see anyone with abdominal muscles that stick 10 inches out. That's because they were not designed to take a heavy load and more for keeping the upper body stabilized during activities. The way to having abs is in diet. Skinny people who never work out have abs. Everybody has them it just that they are cover with fat if you cannot see them. Sure they may increase and tone a little with ab exercised but will not burn fat off in the area that you exercise. A safe caloric deficit diet and exercising big primary mover muscles will burn far more fat than say sit ups and planks. However you should exercise your core some to keep up with the growth of your big muscle groups and avoid injury like hernia. There you have it though quit doing a thousand sit ups and hours of planks and work your core moderately.
