First animals appeared on Earth
A team of Australian scientists discovered how the first animals appeared on Earth
An explosive propagation of algae, which occurred abruptly 650 million years ago, has been the catalyst for the appearance on Earth of the first animals, according to a recent study by a team of Australian researchers, Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday.
Associate professor Jochen Brocks of the National University of Australia (ANU) explained in a statement released on Thursday. His team came to this conclusion after analyzing the content of ancient sedimentary rocks he crushed by turning them into a " a fine powder.
According to Brocks, scientists have thus managed to overturn traces of organisms 650 million years ago. We crushed these rocks in powder and extracted from them molecules of ancient organisms, the researcher said.
These molecules tell us that things have become really interesting 650 million years ago. It was a revolution of ecosystems, it was the rise of algae, Brocks said.
Chronology shows that algal explosive propagation occurred after a 50 million-year ice age; during which glaciers and glacial formations have crushed mountain areas, which has led to the release of nutrients in the oceans, Brocks explained.
