On the last day of the year not only the cork stoppers of sparkling wine bottles jump: even the fireworks dart in the air and enchant with their play of colors. But, so that the party for all remains just a beautiful memory, you must observe some rules with fireworks.
When rockets and volcanoes light up the New Year's Eve, it is not just the eyes of children that shine: the fireworks enchant young and old. However, handling pyrotechnic articles repeatedly involves accidents that could be avoided by proper handling. According to the accident prevention office (up), about 250 people are injured each year in Switzerland by handling pyrotechnic fires. There is also a record of fire damage in buildings.
Purchase advice
With some simple safety measures, the risk of injury can be reduced. This starts with the purchase of the product: ask the sales staff for proper handling and follow the instructions on use and warnings, as well as the age restrictions for the use of firecrackers by children. Keep items purchased in a dry and cool place, out of reach of children and pets.
And now the bang
On the place of the party place your fireworks in a place protected from possible sparks of other fires: better if in a separate room or covered. The piece that you want to light must be laid on a stable base. Here, too, the safety distances must be respected by people, animals, and buildings. Do not insert rockets into the ground to start them: smaller rockets can be launched from well-set bottles, while larger rockets can only be launched from barrels or from throwing tubes.
Down the fingers from fires did not explode!
Burnt fireworks must first be allowed to cool and, before disposing of them, must be wet with water. Also important is the behavior with the fires not exploded: wait ten minutes before approaching and never try to turn them back on. Wet the product with water and return it to the point of sale for proper disposal.
Have regard
The rockets can be so beautiful - but they are also so noisy. Keep in mind that not all of your neighbors may like it. Respect families with small children, older people, and pets. Make sure in advance if someone is disturbed by the noise and find a compromise, for example by setting the time when you will make the fires or by lighting only little noisy fireworks such as volcanoes.
