Hello Dear Steemit Friends ! Today I would like to present you William Morris (1834-1896) – Brirish painter, writer, textile designer, craftsman, and social reformer. As students he and his friend Burne-Jones came under the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites and their leader Rossetti, whose medievalism inspired both his early poetry in “ The Defence of Guenevere” and his principles of design.

Morris was a remarkably versatile craftsman and designer with an unerring feeling for flat pattern and simplified natural forms, he revolted against the pretentious fussiness of much Victorian design.

In 1861 the decorating firm which became Morris & Co. Was founded to produce furniture, tapestries, stained glass, wallpaper, and carpets, with the aim of reviving the medieval guild tradition of the craftsman executing his own designs. This was a major inspiration to the Arts and Crafts movement, as Morris's later founding of the Kelmscott Press was to the private press movement. In the 1880s he became the first significant British Marxist writer, producing magazine articles, and the celebrated prose work “News from Nowhere” alongside a sequence of archaic prose romances.

Aaah wonderful! This one is a bit different than your other choices, but still very good and artistic. I feel that sometimes designers' works are taken for granted by society, it's good if we can appreciate them more :).

My FAVOURITE William Morris! I love all his things and am often inspired by him when designing the decorative. I'm going to be channeling him in some wallpaper designs soon!
