Why the Fuck Should I Watch: CAPTAIN MARVEL (2019)

Why the fuck should you watch “Captain Marvel”?
• You have waited for a "Top Gun" sequel for over 30 years and finally it’s here!
• You hate dogs and love cats.
• How the hell did Nick Fury lose his eye? Can we finally find out?
• Marvel’s formula for movies with some Marvel-humor is something that really resonates with your feelings and makes you feel complete.
• You always pick movies basing on metacritic.com Critics Score and not on User Score.

This is a movie, where the new Marvel superhero is introduced to us. Yes, there are still more of them! This time it’s a highly skilled but too emotional soldier Vers (Bria Larson), who lives on an alien planet and has a foggy memory. Well to be honest she doesn’t know who she is - good old amnesia and “who am I” -trick makes things always more interesting, right? And due to the certain events that occur, she ends up (falls) on Earth in the 90’s, where she conveniently meets young Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who still has 2 perfect eyes.

The idea of the plot is quite an interesting one and the memory/flashback scenes are made well. There was potential to make it a truly great memory-mindfuck movie, but Marvel didn’t take risks, it seems, oh well. Samuel L Jackson’s young Nick Fury is entertaining to watch, and Goose (The Cat) does a great job with his character and carries the movie nicely. But somehow, when the movie ended, I really didn’t feel connected to the movie, or to the main character.

Although we get some backstory and she gets new powers during the movie and clearly evolves, Vers never seems to be actually in trouble. Overcoming hardships and sacrifice is the most important part of any superhero story and presenting that part to a viewer was lacking weight and deeper emotion. You know, I’m all about those feels, bro.

If you leave out all the feminism controversy shit, boycotting this movie and so on, it is actually possible to have a good time while watching “Captain Marvel”. It’s definitely not on the level of “Avengers: Infinity War” or “Thor: Ragnarok”, but it’s decent. Now the question….how the fuck did Vers learn to use her powers in an instant?

What I learned from the movie:

  1. Cats are funny when in space.
  2. Some women can fall many times and sometimes even from space and nothing hurts them (she really likes falling, it’s her thing).
  3. Always hit old ladies.
  4. Disobeying orders is the best thing you can do in military.

Why the fuck you shouldn’t watch “Captain Marvel”?
• You are the Wonder Woman. The only DC hero that does anything better than a similar Marvel hero.
• After the great Stan Lee passed away, you can’t watch any movies with him anymore because crying. Just remember what the band a-ha taught us: Real men cry in the rain.
• You like romance and want main characters always to hook up and do snuggle-snuggle and some babies.
• You want to see an unpredictable original movie, that turns into a classic that you can remember after years. Like “Alien” (1979) for example. It’s a great movie, I wish someone would write a review for that soon…
