After Hugh Jackman's final emotional performance as Wolverine in Logan, it's been long debated after Disney gained back the rights to the X-Men if Hugh Jackman would reprise his role as Wolverine. We wouldn't have expected him to rejoin the X-Men once he stated long ago that he would only come back if Wolverine could be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But now that could actually be a reality once Fox merged with Disney. Hopes of seeing this on-screen was shot down again once Hugh Jackman stated this after the deal was official:
“It’s interesting because for the whole 17 years I kept thinking that would be so great, like I would love to see, particularly, Iron Man and the Hulk and Wolverine together and every time I saw an Avengers movie I could just see Wolverine in the middle of all of them like punching them all on the head. But it was like, 'Oh well, that’s not gonna happen,' and it was interesting just when I first saw that headline — it was just the possibility of it and who knows what’s gonna happen, obviously — I was like, 'Hang on!' But I think, unfortunately, the ship has sailed for me, but for someone else, I would like to see Wolverine in there.”
Yeah...bummer. But wait...we're not done yet!
Just recently, at Ace Comic-Con, Sebastian Stan, Chris Evans, and Anthony Mackie were on the subject of the merger between Fox and Disney and how it could affect the relationship between the X-Men and Marvel films. Sebastian Stan, who is famously known as Bucky, said something that just sparked up a lot of speculation:
"Recently I happened to be sitting next to Hugh Jackman, I didn't know what other awkward thing I could talk about but to be like, 'Am I going to see you soon?' I don't know. But he said a couple of things to me and I'll just leave it at that. Otherwise, I feel like I'm going to get into trouble with somebody."
I don't think Stan really cares about getting in any trouble cause he continued saying this:
"I asked him because I kept thinking he said whether or not that was, Logan, was supposed to be the last Wolverine thing or whatever and he said to me, well I think he publicly said out there, which was like he's been thinking about it and it's been on his mind. So, I don't, he may be."
Well, publicly speaking, we were all made aware that the "ship" had already sailed for him but behind-the-scenes, I don't see why he wouldn't possibly be taking it into consideration. This is something that fans have been demanding for a very long time and for the chances to finally be there, it's something that has a lot of potential to make the Marvel Cinematic Universe greater than ever.
Speculation about Hugh Jackman's official stance on whether or not he'll be entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Wolverine is now only going to continue to grow after Sebastian Stan's statement at Ace Comic-Con. Comment down below whether or not you think we'll see those retracting claws once more!
