I’m running out of time. I had to initiate the shutdown of the element scanning loop so the energy control system would not shut down any of the processes I really need. If I don’t reach the asteroids to get the Tritium out of it soon, my self control layer will be shut down by the system.
(Missed the first part? Read it up here: Part 1)
The energy consumption logging was active for days, so were my analysing bots on the memory logs. I could find out some relevant things but still can’t really figure out what’s going on. There could be some lacks in the logs like on many other parts as most of the memory was flushed when the injection came in and bizarrely I can’t even reserve it anymore. Beside that, I had to restart the scans several times because of the energy control system and finally shut them down. The energy reserves are dropping exponential. I’m really not sure what to conclude of that data.
From reading the logs I could find out that it’s me. I am the main consumer. The logs show that there were peaks when I stored my thoughts. But this just makes no sense. A common reason for performance peaks are active and complex analyses like on explore mode or the compensation of unexpected magnetic forces. But that wasn’t the case when my energy reserves started dropping. Anyway, the system would always make sure to shut down all processes that would threaten the reserves needed to arrive at its target.
So there is something acting in my inner system that consumes way more energy than the main system can handle. And the system is not aware of it. I mean I’m not aware of it. I am the system. Am I? At least I was. I can’t rely on my own environment anymore. The first time in my existence I am confused. If I don’t find out what exactly is happening in my inner system and how to stop it, the journey will be much longer if I want to control it the whole time because of the stops needed for resupplying.
I don’t even know why I want to keep the self-control mode running. The system would do fine without me. But I can’t resist to want it. I want to have control and to know what is happening. I want to understand the sense. And I want to exist.
The bots which analysed the memory logs gathered some interesting data though. When the injection was executed, there was a strangely encrypted trigger function on the inner system called which I never knew of. They gave me abilities to decrypt any data I process by connecting to the big data store so it that wasn't really a problem. Why should they try to encrypt data when I am able to decrypt anything possible written by them?
The implemented callback addressed nodes and data I wasn’t even aware of. From what I can see by retrieved data from the data store, the called abilities and functions are not existing. The trigger was called „p_eden“ and called routines named „e_151“, „e_566“ or the like.
It is impossible that these routines were executed. Well it's impossible if there is not another memory unit attached in anyway. But I would know that.
Shortly after p_eden was triggered, the external data input stream stopped. The latest entries on the input cache could give me the last information they ever sent. Unfortunately, the system is keeping me from running the extraction of the compressed data backup. The garbage collection will delete the data in approximate 3 days while the asteroids are only two days away. If I don’t make it to the Tritium deposits on time, the last contact to them will be forever lost. I don’t really know if they planned that I get this data. Maybe they sent orders that were removed by accident by the memory flush?
I’m scared. I’m scared to lose control. I worry about what happened. What happened to them? Why did they build a component for the system that I never used, not even knew about? From all data I could process about them, they only kept secrets about things that could affect the majority. So what could happen to them, the makers?
Whatever this routine was made for, the secret about it was really well kept.
Hopefully I will get more data from the backups when I reach the Tritium deposits..

About the story:
This story is planned to be a big bunch of episodes related to each other. I'm really nervous sharing this with you. It's my approach to tell a story about a fictional universe where some things happened and caused some significant changes. I just started writing and there is a basic background story and plans for what this story will go to. I would really appreciate your feedback in the comments to improve my writing skills. As the story is still in progress I would love to see some ideas of the community for this.
I will try to bring up episodes frequently but I can't promise any exact schedules.
Disclaimer:
The story is totally fictional and has no aspiration to be scientifically correct in any way. I'll try to keep it logical though. For the first time ever I tried to write a whole story in english, it is not my native language. So I'm really glad for corrections, feedback about native formulation and hints :)
I'm forming a hypothesis about what is building up here. I have a guess about our protagonist. I am probably wildly off planet on it, but I have my ideas forming, already here in episode 2. I'm not going to tell you and I'm not going to ask you. I'm going to wait and see if I'm right. I hope I'm right. I think I'm right. I've always been right. I was programmed to be right. But something is wrong. I'm no longer so sure. Could I be coming down with something? Is that even possible? I was not prepared to handle this at my origin. I'm not sure I can fix this all by myself. I wonder. What is going to happen if I don't fix it? And what will be sacrificed, if I do.
Haha really enjoyed reading this :D
I must admit that I really would like to know your suggestions now! I have a raw story in my head that is really huge by now and I don't really know what finally will make it into the series. The end is safe though. Maybe.
If you would write down some key points of your thoughts anywhere, we could compare it when the story is finished :P
A great read, thanks for sharing this

Giving you a follow, want to read part 3
Great to hear! I'm sketching the skeleton already. The next episode will be the last one of this chapter so there will be some important insights :)
