Chapter I
It had rained consistently for two days now in Uyo. David rose from his bed, sat across the rims and peeped through the darkness; it was barely 4:28 am. Outside the storms raged persistently leaving doted thuds on the window panels.
Ordinarily, he would have had a sound sleep tonight but details of Thursday's conversation wont let him feel at ease. Truly, there is a time for everything on earth, a time for friendship and a time for duels. He picked up his mobile phone, set the note pad and scribbled "These rains threaten to swallow the city". Dropped the device and adjusted himself back in the sheets.
Meanwhile, a distance away from Abak Road, about 7 streets from his new home, lived the calm and ever gracefully mother of four. Dotted in her proud apparel, this widow must have had her fill of melancholy in life for she wore a countenance of 'victory over anger' as opposed to the popular pity seeking face which would usually be the outlook of an Ibibio widow.
Iboro was the beauty of seven seas. According to the tales that surrounded her in town, she may have been married to a highly placed man in the society. Rummured to have been very intelligent and of good cheer, the customs officer must have passed on in the springs of his career.
Born in the southern parts of Nigeria, David understood that the expectations of young males in his society was to lead his family to pride. In clear terms, calve a niche for both himself and the family he represented. Uyo was even a more difficult town to return to. A direct contrast to Lagos it was but all the same, excuses didn't make the man, success did. And so, on this rainy Monday morning, he looked at his clock, dressed in a simple shirt and pants regardless the rain, he stepped out into the streets. 7:21 AM must meet him at the home of Mr. Harry uwakson. Such was the command of illegality.
