Strange Mist Of The Day; Chapter 3 - Fiction

As we both walked quietly down to the village square, she bought the lantern lamp we needed for the new moon festival. We are to write our wishes on the paper lamp, then send it off to the sky as it fly up in the sky like a balloon, with a little light making the written wishes to be seen.

Out here is the new moon slightly shinning brightly, the thought of how I and that lady used to sit and watch the new moon under the old tall palm tree was all I could ever think of. Now it is time for the fetish right to be performed, it is believed that making sacrifice to the gods of the land will bring prosperity and success to the land,so every new moon is a call for fetish rights and sacrifice. It is to be done by the King who is to move round the town sprinkling the blood of a new born goat on the ground as he moves about, thus it serves as an avenue to see the king once every year. After that, everyone is to write his or her wish on the paper lamp, send out the lantern lamp to fly freely in the sky.

The past five years just looked fresh in my memory it was just like yesterday to me. I remembered how I and Bolanle walked around that night holding her hands to warm her up as the breeze of the harmattan was so cold and she looks as if she would collapse.

Bolanle was just a young lady of eighteen years, she has a round face like that of a full round moon, her cheeks puffed out with big eye balls composed with her black eye lids and a heart shaped like lips. No man will pass her by without turning around to look at how beautiful and well mannered she is. I could remember her telling me she will make herself useful. "Adekunle I will make sure am recognised and useful" she kept on telling me.

That certain day i could see her through my window, dressed up in her kampala wear, iro and buba with her suku, beads tied all around making her look more different and unique. She twist her waist jubilantly and whispers out to call for me that night before we went out to the village square together. But now its five years ago and Bolanle is no where to be seen. I kept on staring at different Ladies moving towards my direction thinking she is the one and that maybe because its now five years I cannot clearly identity her amidst people.
