$60 SBD Awarded, $40 More Available to Sponsor #Fiction Writing Contests!

in #fiction7 years ago

Five Days Ago I announced my plans to give 100 SBD in Prizes out to Five Different Steemians as contest prizes for Fiction Writing Contests. The idea was to promote the #fiction tag back into the top tags list on Steemit.

It was also to be an attempt to get Fiction pumping during National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo.

In those five days, three people have taken me up on the offer, and I have promised $60 in prize money to their contests. One has already received funds from posting their initial contest post. But I still have $40 SBD to give away to two contest runners!

It's a pretty simple task, and I didn't think it would be that hard to give money away! All you need to do is give me an idea of what kind of fiction contest you would run, we'll discuss the contest and how you expect to use the prize money from my sponsorship. I approve the contest, then once you post your contest entries post, I send you $20.

Below is a direct copy of the rules from my original post.

Rules for Sponsorship:

  • Contests must be in English.
  • In the spirit of NaNoWriMo, where writers are encouraged to write 1700 words per day to reach 50,000 words in a month, let's go for longer stories here. Contest must be for Fiction Story Writing, 600 word minimums, word count max is up to the contest runner.
  • Preference will be given to contests which feature a writing prompt of some sort. Extra Preference if the writing prompt comes from another Steem Content Creator.
  • $20 SBD can be divided in a manner of the contest runner's choosing as long as all goes to contestants.
  • If I am not familiar with you and your contest, Prize money will be made available to contest runners at the completion of the contest for distribution.
  • I will be monitoring for collusion and reserve the right to deny sponsorship to anyone trying to pull one over on me.

I can still Sponsor two events in this run, and hopefully will be able to continue to support great writing initiatives in the future. So bring me your ideas! I'd love to hear them!!

Please spread this post far and wide. I want good fiction to come out of National Novel Writing Month! And more importantly, I want to see fiction climb back up into the popular tags. Right up into the top ten where it belongs! Get out there and get writing!

Please Comment if you would like me to sponsor your contest and let's talk. I can also be reached on Steemit.chat or Discord under the same username @mikepm74. I look forward to the types of ideas you come up with for getting fiction back where it belongs!

Please consider upvoting and resteeming this post for maximum exposure! Much Appreciated!

Now get out there and write!!

I've really been wanting to see some good science fiction on the topic of time travel. I was actually thinking the last few days that it would be great if I could find a sponsor.

Although I'm still pretty new here, I've been participating in a lot of writing contests, and I think I have a pretty good idea of what works and what doesn't.

My wife, @carrieallen, is very active in chat, and promoting such a contest would be fairly easy.

I think that everyone would love some great time-travel stories. I was thinking 600-1000 words, but I'm flexible on that.

Thank you for extending this opportunity! Resteemed and followed!

Time Travel you say, well take a look at my story its unusual time travelling.... cheers Dave

i am really thankful for the positivity around me and good people like you on steemit who make everyday special :)

Wow great

how do we submit it?

Hi Mike, thank you so much for sponsoring the contest - One Day in 2040.

Hopefully this will get people thinking... and writing.

As a reader, (I just found your post), I want to belatedly thank you for supporting the writers/storytellers. Without them there would be no stories to read. So thank you.

I'm not asking for 50,000 words. I just want people in the spirit of writing. I want 600+ words for these contests. It's just an effort to get people writing, in the spirit of NaNoWriMo. I can't even imagine a 50,000 word post on Steem. That's a bit unworkable!

It's possible. I've seen quite a number of people take up projects like this and even over shoot it.

I know someone who writes s about 5000 words everyday. It's difficult, yeah! But, it's achievable nonetheless.
