Suspended Between Sounds and Colors

It was like listening to a symphony.

I could hear people talking and could hear the sound of the carousel in the distance. I could hear the people on the other ride and the people not, but I could also hear the sound underneath those superimposed sounds. It was different from the way you hear the hum of the air conditioner or the light snoring of your roommate. You know it's there, but it's not something you pay attention to, unless you make an effort.

This was different.

I stumbled in the parking lot and heard the tinkle of glass, the jingle of keys, and the sound of my phone clacking against my belt as it dropped. I looked around and it was like I could see the way everything sounded. I didn't hear the sound and then look around to find the source. It was like the sound was buzzing around my head and I had opened my eyes, but there was no one to tell me what I was hearing.

I tried to scream, but nothing came out of my mouth, I tried to run, but my feet wouldn't move, and I felt that I had to do something, because the buzzing sound was getting louder and louder. As my hair stood on end, the colors of the cars and the clothes of the people standing around me took form and I could hear those colors.

It was like I could touch the sounds that were around me and I was desperate to find out what was going on. Distantly I felt hands on my shoulders and then I had a rush of euphoria as the sound around me disappeared and I found myself breathing heavily on my hands and knees.

I heard people talking and I saw their mouths moving, but I couldn't understand what they were saying. I looked around and saw that the people around me were shocked. Some were crying and some were upset, but I couldn't tell why. One of them was trying to get me to stand up, but I was frozen. I couldn't move.

I looked up and saw someone standing near me. I knew who it was and why I was there. I stood up on wobbly legs and looked him in the eye and told him that I knew what was happening. I didn't know why, but I could see things I couldn't see before and I knew what these sounds meant. He said that I had to calm down, that I was being hyper, hyper, and being a little vague, but I couldn't hear him. My eyes darted around wildly and the air was so full of color around me that I was dizzy. I closed my eyes and everything went away.

I woke up on the pavement and people were around me and they were still talking, but they were saying the same things and they weren't talking in circles like they had been before.

I closed my eyes again and a face appeared in my mind. She had red hair and she was sitting behind me in English. I knew that I had seen her face before, but that was it.

My mind reached into the blackness of my skull and I felt a sound. I was sure that sound was the sound her face would make if I could hear it, but it wasn't bouncing around my head. It was hovering directly in front of me, but it was silent. I opened my eyes and saw her face floating in front of me.

We talked and then I stood up. I told her that I had to leave. She walked me to the car and I told her that I had to get back to the house and take care of things, but I got out of the car.

I walked in the house and I knew she was still there. I didn't feel anything, but I heard her knocking on the door with her baton and asking if I was feeling alright. I told her ''No", and I heard her speak. I said that I had to get ready for work. I closed my eyes and called the sound that I thought of myself into my head.

I could hear my voice and I realized that I could hear what I sounded like to other people, but I was so focused on hearing myself that I couldn't hear what she was saying. I walked outside in my pajamas and looked at the lawn. I could see the grass on the lawn and I could see that it was growing. My legs moved me forward and I watched as the grass became a blur and then the sound clicked into place.

The sound of the grass coming up and growing in the ground was in my head, but I was able to distinguish the different pitches and tones. It was the same as when I could see the world around me, but it was different. It was a new form of seeing.

I had someone drive me to work and I met with my CEO. We had never met before and he was nervous to talk to me and afraid to look into my face, so I smiled and said hello.

He said that I looked tired and that I looked like I might have been exposed to some form of terrible electromagnetism. I told him that however I was feeling, I had to go to the courthouse and make a deposition. He said that I looked fine, but I knew that he was concerned. He said that I looked like I had wonderful vision.

That was how it started.

I don't remember how I got there or where I was or why I was in that place. I didn't have any memory of ever being in that room or why I was there, but I was sure that I was.

Even though I didn't have any memory of the room that I was in, I remember feeling like I had made a lot of money from that experience, because as I drove to work, I saw the inside of the car and it was worth a great deal more then what I would have thought.
