RE: Star Trek Is Pretty Much North Korea In Space

How can you think economics applies in a system with no trade? All items are free in the Federation.

You are the one being misled by applying rules that make no sense (even in today). If you think modern Keynesian economics is some sort of discipline to appeal to the authority of, you're on the wrong website.

If you mean another, saner economics, such as Austrian, then specify instead of applying ad hominem with no knowledge of my expertise. I have a master's in this area - which is enough to say that most modern economics is nonsense, so you had better specify.

Sort:

Nothing is free, anywhere. Humans have value. Expertise has value. Also, humanity seems to trade with other races. Also we witnessed plenty of times on enterprise people hiding drugs, making handcraft gifts, exchanging things of sentimental value for favors, and ofcourse, like in every other oppressive society, smuggling things in for trade from other races.

I also believe that most economics are nonsense. Economics are not science. We got that on the previous thread.

What I am referring here is the value of human beings as individuals — hence why in the Star Trek universe is measured by military rank. We notice plenty of times that the Enterprise for example was getting renowned scientists, poets..etc..all of whom where distinguished on Earth. They also had to go through the military academy for basic training. all of them.

again. Totalitarian Socialism.

also. please. stop flashing your degree. it is pointless. Papers can be bought. Also something we have discussed.

"They also had to go through the military academy for basic training. all of them."

Ok, this is absolutely false, and that is what I have been saying all along. They DID NOT go through the academy. Look it up. Jake Sisko didn't. Noonian Soong didn't. There are tons more examples. This demonstrates that the claim "they all did" is false. The academy was only for those who WANTED to be Starfleet personnel. Please respond directly to these facts, stop dodging them.

". please. stop flashing your degree. "

Pointing out once, that I have a master's in the area you implied I was an idiot in, is not "flashing my degree". This is intellectually dishonest enough to qualify as ad-hominem.

They had do at least for basic training if they were to join the star fleet. It was protocol and part of the prime directive. aka. All who were aboard the ship for explorative missions had to do some academy training.

Do you even know what an ad-hominem is? Here is an illustration so you can digest it better. I can't believe I have to teach you this as well.

"They had do at least for basic training if they were to join the star fleet. It was protocol and part of the prime directive. aka. All who were aboard the ship for explorative missions had to do some academy training."

This is demonstrably false. How do you explain the numberous under-age-10 Children on the enterprise, and hundreds of civilians who never underwent any training? Enterprise had tons of civilians, you do know that right?

PS - When you attack me with an insult that has no basis in fact, you are using ad hominem. I'm amazed I need to TELL you that, since you know it so well.

They were only part for transportation purposes (hence the Enterprise detachment protocol). Also, even those people were doing drills and training because most of them were transferring in between space stations.

I never used an insult. You are just too touchy. Anything can be considered an insult. aka. i can tell you are still in college just from your level of PC.

No, they were permanent residents of the Enterprise. Look it up.

From memory alpha:

"Although Starfleet crewmembers staffed the vital positions on board the Enterprise, civilian crewmembers were allowed to hold important jobs in the ship's science and medical departments, as well as support areas like Ten Forward and the ship's school or the arboretum. (TNG: "Night Terrors", "Hero Worship", "Ethics") The Enterprise included children among the civilians on board, a concept which was not initially embraced by Captain Picard. (TNG: "Encounter at Farpoint", "The Bonding")"

They were NOT simply riding the Greyhound Enterprise-NCC-1701-D Service. False. They did not have combat drills. Emergency evacuation drills like if you sit in the evac row on an airplane? Maybe once or twice.

a concept which was not initially embraced by Captain Picard.

yeap. it was debatable and not something that followed through the entire universe.

Even so, they were under the direction of the military. Every single soldier was above them. Remember, you lost track of the argument which was that the military controlled everything and that ultimately is much like NK where also the civilians are controlled by the military.

darn. you make it so easy. answering your own questions. :)
