Fascinating. I find it curious that the protagonist is so relaxed even after they pull a fast one on her with the brain scan. Is she an agent from an even higher-tech polity, amused that the primitives actually have brain scans? Or does she have ataraxia like the guy in Lucky Number Slevin lol

EDIT: I have now read the rest of the series. Great work. Clean clear prose, highly topical subject matter and a sort of inverse-Gattaca premise. I like it a lot.

I'd say it is because there is nothing she can change anymore anyways, so she already locked away all her emotions. Sometimes a big reveal or shock can be too big, and we just go like "oh well, whatever".
