I think you hit the nail on the head: "The future is pictured based on the past, not the...future." I never really thought about that fact before, but it's very true. It is said that we never truly come up with new ideas, they always have some influence from the past, in the same way I guess we are always restricted to picture the future because of our influence from the past.
