LETTERS TO FELICIA (PART 3) We Drowned, Felicia, We Drowned

My Sweet Felicia, Do You remember Doctor Aseem? My mothers therapist, the old man with the silver hairs in his ears? Well, he called over the phone two days ago, said he’d thought about me and thought he’d call. He asked after you too. Wondered if you and I still talked… he died this morning. Last night I awoke with tears gushing from my crimson eyes. My chest felt hard and heavy, like my heart had melted into my lungs, smoldered the air and lynched me from the inside. I dreamed we dove off the cliff of a waterfall and splashed like soap into the rocks half naked. I dreamed your head hit a rock and you bled scarlet red. You were almost gone, your lips swallowed bubbles and your eyes opened and closed as though to speak words your watery lungs wouldn’t let you. I swam to you. I cried like never before, and If my tears could turn the water salty it would have. I screamed and paddled you to shore, then I pressed your lips with my breath and pushed your chest to wake. And that was how I woke up crying. This morning I received a letter from the late Doctor Aseem. Apparently he had sent this letter seven months ago but it got lost in transit. It came with a couple of dollars and in it he said briefly: "The last time I visited, the silence between you two; made my blood run cold. Don’t Drown. Take this money and come pay me for counseling. You’re my favorite couple - Doctor Aseem." We haven’t drowned Felicia, I’m glad it was all just a dream. Because if anything happened to you, truly, I would die.
