RE: My Grandfather created a steemit account

in #father7 years ago

So rad to get him in on this. Steemit is just getting started and as you have already seen payouts can be significant.

Fyi i saw you asking about steem payouts.
They work like this:
75% goes to you, 25% to your curators.

Of the 75% you get, 50% of that is paid in steem and 50% paid in steem backed dollars.

The steem backed dollars are paid out as if they are only worth 1 usd but they are worth more.

So $100 post will get you a 75 pay out, which equates to 37.5 SBD, and 37.5 usd worth of steem.

Since SBD are worth $5-7 usd each you are getting way more usd than it seems.

Make sense?

THANK YOU!

You need to help him as new user, since steemit is a community and sharing place,

Also I am pretty sure dtube takes a cut to run there servers, im not sure how it works but I think it is like 25%

Everybody will be on steemit soon

I've been on Steemit for about a week (Thanks by the way) and it is a hellava learning curve, just finding your account to follow, has been a bit frustrating, but im still at it, one thing that should be noted is that the app lacks a lot of the flexibility you get on a computer, but since it steemit, is a functional crypto platform and @trevonjb seems very enthusiastic about it i will give it the old college try, thanks

If you put in time, adding comments to content you like, posting stuff you like, resteeming and upvoting great content, you will rise in rep and earn a little something while your at it.

If you are enjoying it I strongly encourage powering up all steem for the first while or buying a little to get yourself started.

If you have steem power your votes award more rewards, and yes you can reward yourself ("self-vote"). So buying steempower is like mining crypto, but with the power of words and your time.

Good luck.

Thanks for the very informative post, am also new and the community in here helps alot.

Fyi its a little more complicated than I suggested but thats pretty much right. And thanks.

Side note: If your grandfather is stuck in the signup queue for too long, you can buy him an account using blocktrades. Costs ~5 Steem and gets delivered almost immediately.

that's so awesome, I'm glad your grandfathers mind is still sharp enough to use a computer, mine would be a nightmare to teach something like that to . :-)

Actual curation % seems to be a bit lower, in this post explaining why

https://steemit.com/curation/@themarkymark/the-truth-and-lies-about-25-curation-why-what-you-know-is-fake-news

it seems that steemdb shows 14.9% as the average curation cut, so 85.1% goes to the authors on average.

Anyone curious about the high SBD prices should check out https://upbit.com/exchange?code=CRIX.UPBIT.KRW-SBD you can use chrome to translate it into English, they listed SBD/steem on November 21st and volume for SBD is very high compared to the market cap.

What you said about the 50/50 split pay option is true, as long as SBD is this high then everyone should be only using that as their payout option, and using the 100% SBD option on steem-related media sites that give that option.

Is for anyone who wants to know more about curation itself.

Makes sense, thanks for taking the time to explain it. :)

Damn man, thanks for clearing this up for me. I've been on for awhile and I still feel a little lost.

Right at least your grandfather want to learn something new. And not be a old fossil like my grandfather

Thanks for this, i actually did not know this breakdown! thanks dude
